According to the dictionary, kindness is an act being generous, friendly and considerate. In simple term, kindness is an act of providing help for someone who needed it in order to give happiness.

Additionally, kindness is acting without recognition or reciprocity expectation. The school is one of the major agents of socialization for children. Therefore, makes schools one of the perfect places to teach kindness to our children. Because what we teach them today will become their need when they grow up. Let's look at some reason teach kindness in school.

Why should teach kindness?


The school environment can be really stressful. Sometimes they can bring school problems to home. Most of the students struggle to socialize and have a good grade. Children who are being ignored, teased or excluded is really painful for them. Moreover, it can affect on their daily life.

Kindness can bridge the gab and help build connection sense among the students, the teachers and the parents. Learning to regulate their emotions and strengthen their attention are foundational skills that could benefit for kids in school and their life.

Furthermore, the full of kind and mindful kids in the classroom can change the school environment. Imagine that entire schools and district emphasized kindness. That could be really powerful. Teaching kindness is a way to widespread transformation that doesn’t need involvement of extensive administrative or changes the policy.

● Increased their brain activity
Some research said serotonin is a hormone in the brain that will be produced in great amount if we show an act of kindness. This hormone has an important role in sleep, health, digestion, and learning. In conclusion, having a positive mind allows them greater attentions and enables more creative thinking to produce great results at school.

● Gain happiness
Showing acts of kindness bring happiness for both sides of the receiver and giver of kindness. The receiver is happy because their need which caused them so much worry has finally been fulfilled. And the happiness face from the receiver is enough brought happiness for the giver.

● Increased the sense of gratitude
If children are projected part that helps others less fortunate than themselves, it provides them with a real feeling of perspective and helps them to appreciate all good things in their lives. And showing gratitude encourages the performer of the act to want to do more in the future.

● Decreased bullying
Teaching compassion and kindness in schools, not only give the positive behavior that creates warm and improves school environment, but also helps children feel what they belong. In fact, the effect of bullying can be reduced by teaching kindness in school.

● Reduced depression
Some research says that an act of kindness can increased amount of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a natural chemical that responsible for increasing mood. It also found that the amount of serotonin is increased in both of givers and receiver of an act of kindness. It makes that kindness became the wonderful of antidepressant.
